April Showers

I'm glad these windows don't open
I'm too high up, I can't be trusted
That's why you have shut all your doors
You know that I would jump

All I can do from here is watch
I'd rather not
I don't envy that world out there
I only resent it

If I went outside now, I wouldn't be happy
It's colder than we had forecast
I'd rather play board games inside
Than play catch by myself

I'm so caught up in April showers
Even tomorrow, and the next day
They bring May flowers
But not tomorrow, nor the next day

Not for me anyway, that's not the order of things
It's all in reverse, she was my ticket
The Mayflower sent me from Africa
My May Flower brought me back

I felt at home, finally
But I could not build a house for us
Warmth is hard to hold on to
When the sun sets on the Sahara

She could stay close to the ground for me
But there are bugs to contend with out here
I tried to find us shelter beneath the giving tree
Not knowing it was deciduous

A home is not a house
It would not protect us from this rain
A chair is not a bed
It is a place where the mind works, not rests

I'm glad these windows don't open
I'm too low down, I can't be trusted
I won't jump again with these old knees
Until heaven is beneath me as well.
